Unity Is Strength This is probably one of the oldest trade union slogans. Only by combining together could groups of workers improve their working terms and conditions and increase salaries. They were also able to speak with one voice and achieve through collective bargaining what cannot be gained through individual negotiation.
The old trade union slogan still remains as relevant today as it did then. “Pick up a match and try to break it that’s easy, now pick up twenty matches together and try to break them”.

Branch Support to UCU Lecturers strike against cuts
Major cuts and compulsory redundancies are being imposed on higher education establishments, today UCU members were on strike across London.
East London Mental Health Staff used their break time to attend and show solidarity. These cuts affect everyone and its time for co-ordinated trade union responses to these public sector wide cuts.

Victimisation of a UNISON rep; East London Branch gave full support to this successful campaign in Manchester.

The disruption by the dismissal of Karen Reisman by the Chief Exec caused disruption to patients and staff and unltimatley resulted in the termination of the Chief Execs contract and is no longer working in the NHS, Karen has now resumed her career in another Trust.

Regular training and team building has been crucial to the successful recruitment of new stewards and recruitment of new members. Without the asssistance of the Regional pool committee who supported our vision and plans we would not have been as effective at dveleoping the Branch to the point it has now reached..
